New Fit Note to replace Sick Note

Please read the advice from the TUC with regards to the new FIT NOTE which will be replacing the normal Sick note from a GP.

The ATCO Branch will soon be entering into discussions with NATS to ensure that anyone who returns to work following the new Fit Note procedures will not be disadvantaged in any way.

ATCO Competency agreement signed

The ATCO’s BEC have been negotiating an agreement to address and protect, as best we can, those individuals who fail to maintain their competency. We signed this agreement on friday. It is still yet to be given a NATS Agreement number and appear on the register for all to see, but we expect this to take place over the next few weeks. This is positive news for ATCO’s. More detail to come.

Negotiations break down on ATCO competency agreement

Many of you will know that the Branch have been negotiating with NATS management on a new agreement to deal with those individuals who are unable to maintain competency. The Branch recently reached the stage where we were happy with virtually every element of this proposed new agreement. However two issues remained , that of the details of the relocation package and the application of higher to lower payments.

The Area side of the business was content with applying the employee handbook terms to higher to lower, but the Airport side inform us that they are unable to apply higher to lower when this agreement involves an individual moving between airports. After policy passed at the recent Special Delegates Conference, which supports established national policy, the ATCO Branch cannot accept differing terms and conditions depending on where you work within NATS. Negotiations, therefore, have broken down completely as the Airports side maintain their position.

Overpayments Wording and Agreement

The reason for the mtg was that NATS had placed wording in the EH that was not agreed with the TU’ s. NATS refused to alter the wording , so this mtg was to address that and agree the correct wording.

Mgt came with proposed new wording after some discussion around NATS’ attitude in this regard. Mgt accepted and agreed that there was every intention to seek a mutually agreeable solution.
New wording to be drafted and sent round this group to discuss.

An overpayments review group will be held every ¼ . The TU attendee’s for this will be the TU coordinator and then one or two reps from the trade group affected in each case.

SRG Licensing

Very useful meeting covering SRG’s role and the CAA’s role in licensing issues and potential action following an ATCO operating without a medical or LCE.

Will raise this mtg at the BEC in March.

We have told NATS that we were going to see SRG ,and we will be endeavouring to meet NATS to discuss what came out of this.

Both Phil Tring and Ian Weston gave us the impression that this was very useful to them, and I believe that this does not necessarily have to be a one off forum.

ATCO Competency Agreement

Discussed the content of the agreement so far. Agreed that

1) we need to include the appeal process
2) BT to talk to Ian Hall about NERL – NSL moves
3) Both sides need to look at relocation cost implications
4) The ATCO comp budget is held centrally
5) Still issues around higher to lower payments

Another mtg late feb or early march to discuss the above with a view , hopefully, to sign the agreement.
